The workplace has long been suspected to be a source of disease. Families and Work Institute (FWI) data between the years of 2002 to 2008 recorded 34 percent of illnesses suffered by employees from the workplace itself. But according to Eric Endlich, Ph.D., health psychologist working in Massachusetts, there are at least 5 factors that determine the physical and mental health of an employee in the workplace, namely:
- Got a chance to learn something and also challenges
- The balance between your work and personal affairs
- Having a supportive boss
- The attitude of mutual respect and honesty of our fellow employees
- Adequate salary
The working environment like that is what will make healthy workers, because there are elements of the challenges, rewards and expectations.
The most important factor among all factors that determine the health of employees in the workplace is a balance between your work and personal life.
If someone does not have a single element of it, would easily hurt. There are many employees who prioritize work over everything. But what they should not miss is getting enough sleep, shopping, hanging out with friends and family, the consumption of healthy food and also exercise.
Stress of work closely related to the position. The higher one’s position, the higher the pressures of life and risk of disease, particularly diseases associated with stress. They should be able to divide their time between work and family.
The managers or supervisors to keep reminding employees about the importance of maintaining health, including by not demanding work targets and provide the flexibility of working hours.
By allowing employees to leave early could benefit the company. Workers with working hours that are not too tight will make them less pain or stress. And that will affect work productivity. Occasionally rest and relax is important.
