Protecting your future

<<em>strong>Becoming ill, seriously ill, is something nobody actually expects to happen to them. We read about it on the news, we hear of terrible stories of our friends getting terminal cancer or suffering from a heart condition, but it will never happen to us. Unfortunately, it does, all too frequently.

One in three people in the UK are affected by cancer. In the typical family of four this means at least one person is going to contract the disease. They may not die, but treatment is long, ardours and financial, mentally and physically draining. What if this was to happen to your child, or if you were to suffer from cancer, who would look after you children?

The statistics are scary and quite compelling. According to the British Heart Foundation around 89,000 people under the age of 65 will have a heart attack every year in the UK and roughly half of these people may not be able to return to work.

Cancer Research’s statistics show that the most common cause of cancer for men aged 20 to 39 is testicular and about 125 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every single day. Treatment is getting better and survival rates are improving, but the sad fact is that millions of people live the last years of their life as an uphill struggle and millions will die unexpectedly leaving dependents behind.

Mental illness is something that often goes unrecorded, but it too affects more people than we care to consider. The costs of home care can be astronomical and it is draining on everyone involved, from the carer, surrounding family and of course for the individual in question.

Many people consider life insurance to be for old people and critical illness insurance is not worth it but when many of us will have to deal with death at an early age and millions will have to become carers for sick or mentally ill family members, life insurance is just common sense.

There are several different types of life insurance policies and critical illness cover to choose from and despite popular belief it does not have to be expensive. Life Insurance is available from as little as £6 per month. More and more critical illness are being including in the remit of critical illness cover and usually when you take out cover for yourself you children will be covered as well at no extra cost.

Legal & General offers highly competitive life insurance quotes and they are an award-winning insurance provider.
