ANGER SLOWS HEALING, how could be?

Proverb says that laughter is the best medicine for healing might have a point. A study has shown that people who ‘tortured’ by the anger tends to recover over time from injury.

Person that have temperamental problem usually will have high case in coronary heart disease, hypertension and stroke that will make their life become more unwell.

Anger affects the healing process. Research by experts at the University of Ohio this is the first experiment that directly measures the effect of anger toward healing.

In his research, the researchers involved 98 participants who were given a small wound on the arm. The participants were then monitored for eight days and see how fast this skin wound heal by itself.

Previously, the participant must pass through a kind of psychological test to find out how easy they often feel anger or excite. Then, researchers made ratings based on the “scale of resentment.” Participants who consumed similar to certain drugs, smoking, drinking coffee or caffeine in large amounts excluded from the study. The same also applied to those whose weight is too extreme (either thin or fat).

The result was clear. Participants who have problems controlling emotions or anger tend four times as long as it takes time to heal or recover more than four days, compared to those who are able to control his temper.

But researchers also surprised to find that anger also has a kind of nuance. Participant depicted showing an attitude of “anger out” (explosion of aggression is used) or “anger in” (anger being unconsciously) healed almost as quickly as those with low ratings on all anger scales. Only those who have tried but failed to maintain the feeling of anger take a long time to heal.

Researchers also noted that this same group showed the secretion of stress hormones or cortisol is high, which partly explain the difference in recovery time.

Previous research has shown a clear link between cortisol and anger. The man who yelled at spouses during a fight his body release the hormone endocrine modulator within minutes, as well as the teachers who experience stress when teaching in class.

Researchers indicated that high levels of cortisol seem to decrease the production of two types of proteins important cytokines that play a role in the recovery process. Cytokines are proteins released by immune cells. These proteins function as signals in the expanding immune body system.

“The ability to control one’s anger expression is clinically associated with wound healing effect,” said Jean-Philippe Gouin, a psychologist at the University of Ohio in its conclusions.

In a research report, noted also that anger control therapy can help patients in recovery after surgery so that the wound be quickly healed.
